Dr. Michael O Smith and Mr. Suneel Vatsyayan, introduced the system of ‘Auricular Acupuncture’ to relieve person from stress. He said that a lot of stress is caused by one’s style of living. Therefore, if one modifies one’s life style, stress can be reduced. Dr. Smith emphasized the importance of Communication. Communication with others as well as communication with ourselves. He said there are two ways in which one can help himself. One, he said, is the Psychological solution and the other is “ Auricular Acupuncture”.
After that he dwelled upon the features and virtues of Auricular Acupuncture or the ‘Ear Point Acupuncture.” The Auricular Acupuncture consists of stimulating points in the ear by insertion of sterilized needles at specific points related to internal body function. It relaxes and reduces stress, decreases pain, increases energy and immunity and normalizes sleep. The insertion of the needle is almost painless and it is just like a small prick as the needle is very thin and it is not inserted deep into the skin. The needles are made in China.
Mr. Suneel Vatsyayan, a psychotherapist and Director Nada India, said, it helps us help ourselves. For this, Mr. Vatsyayan emphasized, the most important thing is the realization by us that one is under stress and to accept that ‘I need help’. One should not fight shy of asking for help.
After this Dr. Smith and Mr. Vatsyayan called the volunteers from amongst the delegates to apply Auricular Acupuncture. A number of volunteers came forward. Second day also the treatment was given to more than 50 personnel of all ranks. After treatment they were asked to explain their experience.
It is felt that it was a thought provoking exercise where delegates discussed the causes of their stress. They also felt that having discussed the factors which cause stress, there should also be long-term solutions to reduce or remove this stress in the life of a border man. De-stress program should be on-going process and should be regularly undertaken by the Force. |
